Industry official warns Australians to protect their gadgets
An official from the Australian insurance industry has urged consumers to ensure that they have the right level of insurance cover to protect any new gadgets that have made their way into their homes.
Over the Christmas and New Year periods many households in Australia may have found themselves in the lucky position of having new, valuable gadgets in the home, either as a result of receiving gifts from friends and loved ones, or as a result of shopping in the New Year and picking up bargain gadgets for the home.
However, whilst many people enjoy having these new found gadgets in the home many forget about one very important thing, and that is to ensure that the gadgets are protected through an appropriate level of insurance cover. Depending on the type, number, and value of the gadgets that have come into your home you may find that they are not covered by your existing home insurance.
One industry official has said that the value of newly received gadgets, such as entertainment systems, phones, cameras, televisions, and the vast variety of other gadgets that may have entered the home over the festive season can quickly add up, and the level of cover that households currently have in place may need to be upgraded to ensure that these items are fully and properly covered.
Iwona Polski, from CGU, said that households needed to check their cover to make sure that they were properly insured, and if not get the cover upgraded or changed. She said: “It’s a really good idea for people to take a few minutes to list all their electronic devices, especially at this time of year when they might have just received a new iPod or mobile phone for Christmas, and calculate how much they are all worth.”
