Australian financial sector struggles to find skilled staff
In a recent report it has been revealed that many areas of the financial services sector in Australia are finding it difficult to find skilled and experienced workers.
It has recently been reported that many areas of the financial services sector in Australia are having real problems finding skilled and experienced employees to keep things running smoothly. There are concerns that with the turbulence that has hit the financial sector many companies have let employees with experience go, but when the need arises they are having severe difficulties finding replacement staff with the skills and experience necessary.
A survey was carried out amongst financial sector industries, and the results of the study showed that although the global financial crisis is still ongoing, resulting in increased unemployment levels, there still appears to be a real shortage of skilled and experienced professionals in financial fields such as accounting. Around sixty percent of finance managers that were polled felt that this was the case.
Officials have said that the lack of skilled and experienced financial professionals is causing further problems for the already troubled financial sector, and is resulting many firms having to employ employees that do not have the necessary skills to perform the job effectively. It was found that around twenty eight percent of financial companies had ended up hiring employees that did not have the level of skill or experience that the company had originally been asking for.
The survey was carried out by the international recruitment firm, Robert Half, and one official from the firm stated: “Firms that let go of their staff because of uncertainty about the economy have found they haven’t been able to re-fill these positions with skilled staff when their needs have arisen.”
